The Beginning of PB Book Club
Project Butterfly Book Club (PBBC) started in 2023. We aim to help elementary school children in our local community enhance their reading and writing skills. We first launched during Spring Break 2023 with 6 tutors and 8 students. It turned out to be a massive success! Building on the momentum and positive feedback from parents, we expanded PBBC in the Summer of 2023 and added another format to our program. This time we recruited 8 tutors and 12 students, inviting them to sign up for our two new programs: reading and hands-on projects, or reading and writing assignments! Based on post-class survey results, both the Spring and Summer sessions of PBBC brought great joy to our tutors and students. Our tutors are knowledgeable and patient, giving constructive feedback while encouraging dynamic interactions with students. Most importantly, they know how to guide their students in reading and hands-on projects/writing, PLUS having fun at the same time!

1. Reading and comprehension:
The tutors will pick a book to share with students. The students read chapters of the book before class and come to class with thoughts, ready to share! The tutor will then discuss with the student, and dive deeper into the book to ensure further comprehension. In a small group with ~6 students.
2. Reading and writing assignments:
The tutors and students read books and express their opinions/thoughts during class. Afterward, the students are encouraged to pour their thoughts into writing! Our tutors will prompt topics for students to work on in class or assign them as homework, as well as provide feedback. In a small group with ~4 students.
3. Reading and hands-on projects:
The tutors and students read books and express their opinions/thoughts about the books as they read during class. Afterward, a hands-on project that connects to the book's themes, events, or characters will be chosen and the tutor and student will do it together! In a small group with ~4 students.
